And many are trying to replicate this experience throughout the halls of their homes. The color brown being an excellent conduit for these sentiments. According to Verywellmind.com, at a psychological level, the color brown promotes “feelings of warmth, comfort, and security.” And is often described as “natural, down-to-earth, and conventional, but… also sophisticated.” Making it the perfect color for an interior that will automatically allow your body to sink into that feeling of safety and calm.

Purposeful and sustainable, vintage woods allow a homeowner a variety of choices, but allow you to stick to a classic medium of interior design. Whether it’s using old wooden beams, vintage doors, or upcycled cabinets, the ability to stylize your space using sustainable materials has never been simpler. Plus, the feeling that a piece of vintage wood can bring to your home, can make it feel cozy and warm without you having to add all that much. Color blocking and Color Drenching
Many homeowners in past years have opted for a clinical, “all white everything” aesthetic for their homes, but this trend is something that seems to be losing popularity. This is most likely due to Covid-19, where a majority of folks who were forced to be inside began craving something more calming and grounding, which an all white space could not provide. Hence, the rebirth of color blocking and drenching began. There’s nothing that says happiness like filling your home with designs in your favorite color. The years of eggshell and taupe being in favor have progressed and given way to moss greens, gold accents, deep browns, and bold oranges. Now, that’s what we call a creative evolution. So, don’t be afraid of color in your home, embrace it!
You may be asking yourself, “Do I just throw a bunch of color all over my house?” Not necessarily, there are a couple of rules when it comes to making color blocking work for you.
- Embrace the odds
Odd numbers in color blocking are going to be your best route. For example, if you’re working with a blue color palette, you’ll want to go for a dark, a light, and something in the middle or closer to a neutral within the same tone range. Picking 3 to 5 colors allows you to not get too blocked in with your colorful creativity! This will make your color choices feel grounded within themselves as well as intentional. 
Be wary of the color wheel
While it may seem all well and good to choose your favorite colors and to slather them all over your house, there are some color theory essentials you need to consider. Think about it this way, if the colors you have chosen are non-complimentary on the color wheel, you may want to stray away from that choice. Finding similarities or “families” in tones of the same color is what will take your color blocking to a new level. With that being said, pick some fun and bold colors to work with, but make sure they can relate to one another. For example, if you pick a cool tone, continue with that color story – and vice versa.- Geometrics are your friend
If you decide to bite the bullet and opt for color blocking, straight lines achieved with tape are going to be your best friend. Rather than going for abstract design that could become messy, finding balance and harmony through geometrics is going to be essential. Crisp, clean lines from ceiling to floor will be your constant, and shapes will be your bread and butter. - Don’t just paint the walls
Part of the fun of color blocking is that you unlock an entire color palette for the rest of your home! If you’ve decided to paint a forest green backsplash in the kitchen, you can continue that color motif into different rooms, giving your house a sense of continuity. - Go bold!
Be fearless and bold! There are truly no wrong answers for how to make color blocking work best for you. But as an unspoken rule is: it pays to not hold back on your design choices. If you’re looking for a statement wall, pick a color that will make it shout. And inversely, if you’re looking for a cozy den area, paint it dark and bold so that those feelings of calm are elicited. Not only for a sense of privacy like we said earlier, but also so that you can separate yourself from your job by simply walking out of the room where you do your work. Initially, the idea of open concept homes was to increase communication, but this theory turned out to not necessarily hold water. As people who needed to work in their open concepts were at the whims of a room full of different noises and distractions. Causing them to close down communication in order to concentrate on the task at hand. Therefore, in order to deal with the challenges we are faced with each day, our home needs to reflect areas where we can manage those challenges in a curated bubble. With traditional, or closed layout homes, we have given ourselves the opportunity to gain independence again, and then emerge when we see fit.
